Death of H.E. Archbishop Gabriel of Comana

After a long period of illness his eminence Archbishop Gabriel of Comana, retired head of the Archdiocese of Russian Orthodox parishes in Western Europe and Exarch of the Ecumenical Patriarch, fell asleep in the Lord on 26th October in the city of Maastricht (Netherlands) at the age of 67.

Archbishop Gabriel had been the head of the Archdiocese of Russian Orthodox parishes in Western Europe, an archdiocese with its seat in Paris and with a status of internal autonomy within the Ecumenical Patriarchate, from May 2003 to January 2013. Besides being a member of the Assembly of Orthodox Bishops in France (AEOF), he also served as rector of St Alexander Nevsky Cathedral at the rue Daru in Paris and as rector of St Sergius Orthodox Theological Institute, which belongs to the Archdiocese.

All parishes and communities of the Archdiocese are requested to hold panikhidas for the repose of the soul of the departed Archbishop Gabriel, to commemorate him during the Divine Liturgy during a period of 40 days and to enter his name into the parish diptychs for eternal commemoration.

Further details concerning the date and place of the funeral of Archbishop Gabriel will be communicated shortly.
